A Flurry of Furry: Rare White Twin Jaguar Babies

These two white Jaguar twins were born at the Ascherleben Zoo in East Germany on January 18th and 19th 2012. There’s a special story behind these two, if the fact that they are white isn’t sepcial enough. Their parents are rather old, and so this pregnancy was quite unexpected. To top it off, the cubs had open eyes from birth, which is normally not the case.

Why is it every time you’re nice to me, I just end up liking you a little bit more?

“Damn this came out of nowhere huh?” Dave grumbled as he took off his jacket and threw it over him and his best friend.

It was suppose to be a normal day, just two bros, hanging out finally after years of talking over the computer. It wasn’t suppose to rain. It was suppose to be sunny the entire week that Dave was visiting. But then again, when has life ever been easy for John Egbert.

John had been nervous ever since they had planned this entire thing. Don’t get him wrong, he was super excited for Dave to visit. That was actually the most exciting thing that would happen to him all year. But it didn’t make him any less nervous because, let’s be honest here, John had a bit of a crush.

Wait that’s a lie. This wasn’t a crush. Not anymore anyway. During the game, sure, John had some sort of feelings for Dave, but that was totally Bromance. Nothing romantic about it. Just guys being friends. But at some point, something changed. They started talking more, started flirting more, started yurning to visit each other more. And John was in love.

He was in love with his best friend and he didn’t want to do anything about it cause that would ruin everything. Dave wouldn’t like a dork like him. Dave would make an uncomfortable distance between them. The exact opposite of what John wanted. And the exact opposite of what was happening right now.

The rain came out of no where, and it was a downpour. But of course, the ever ready Dave Strider was prepared and improvised, using his jacket as an umbrella for both of them, and pulling John close so his little buddy wouldn’t get wet. And John loved every moment of it.

He was so close to Dave he could feel the heat coming off the other boys skin. The blonde had removed his rain spattered shades and let his crimson eyes be seen by anyone who was near. And the only person around was John.

“Don’t worry Egbert, we won’t let a little rain ruin the day right?” Dave placed his hand on John’s head and ran his fingers through the dark locks as he tried to reassure the depressed looking dork that they could still have tons of fun today, even if was raining. There it was again, the rare Strider kindness that Dave only seemed to give a few people. And he always was nice to John. Always.

Every time Dave was nice to him or protected him or laughed with him, this little “crush” only got worse. Every time he was nice to him, this happy feeling in John’s chest only got stronger. But he frowned because he knew it wouldn’t last.

John wasn’t sad about the rain. No, the rain had brought his best friend, his crush, closer than he had ever been before.

John was sad that eventually the rain would stop and they would never be this close again.

Such is the fate of the Dork with a crush on the Coolkid.

Dave recoiled inwardly as the drops of liquid splattered on his skin. Rain. Something that was not at all welcome and that he was totally unaccustomed to from growing up in Texas.

“Damn, this came out of nowhere, huh?” he muttered, shrugging off his jacket and draping it over the two of them. He hugged John close, huddling together as closely as possible to avoid getting wet. Nope, no other motives except for avoiding the rain, not at all.

The past few hours had passed in a sunny blur, just two friends hanging out, meeting for the first time after talking for years. Friends. Hah. That was a word he had never liked much in relation to John. Dave had known from early on that he was…what was the term? Friend-zoned. That would be it. For all of his “cool-kid” antics, Dave could never summon the courage to cross the boundary of the friend zone and make a move on John. He had reasoned it out with himself more times than he could count, making excuses to himself and keeping his imperturbable mask on. Truth was, Dave was afraid of rejection. Especially John’s rejection, which was inevitable. John “no-homo”, “bromance only” Egbert. There was no way Dave would risk ruining their friendship for something as trivial as romantic feelings.

Now that he thought about it, why had he even started liking Egbert? The kid was a total dork. His goofy jokes, bad taste in movies (though, admittedly, his taste had improved in recent years), overly friendly personality… Dave couldn’t pin down a single reason why. Yet, all of these traits, which would’ve been massively irritating on another person, were somehow completely and irrevocably John. And Dave loved him. Always had.

Even before the game, Dave had left subtle hints, little innuendos, hoping John would pick up on them. He supposed back then it wasn’t really love, more like a crush? But as the years passed, through the game, and even after the game, those feelings had grown into something more serious. Love.

Despite this, Dave had practically given up all hope of John ever noticing. The kid was just so damn oblivious. The more Dave had hinted at his interest in John, the more John had talked about getting together with others, such as Vriska. And then, one day things just… clicked. John began to flirt back. It was subtle, yes, but Dave couldn’t help cultivating the smallest bit of hope. Hope that his feelings might possibly be returned.

He had to confirm it. And the only way to do that for sure was to see how John acted around him in person. So Dave had slowly worked up to the topic of visiting John, insinuating it in conversations until they had begun making plans.

But now that he was here, Dave wasn’t so sure. The day had passed full of friendship, and friendship only. No hint at all of romantic advances or interests from John. Nothing except for platonic feelings.

Dave hooked his glasses onto his shirt, wiping off the droplets of moisture. Glancing down at the dark-haired boy next to him, he said, “Don’t worry Egbert, we won’t let a little rain ruin the day right?” Spotting a once-in-a-lifetime chance, Dave wound his fingers in John’s hair, relishing the silky feel. Dave looked at him again, but John’s face was turned down, out of sight.

Dave tightened his arm a little, hugging John a bit closer. This was it. Probably the closest they would ever get. After this, it was all smooth sailing on the sea of bromance and friendship.

Maybe the rain was a sign, to wash away the feelings Dave had harbored for so long. Maybe it was a sign to just let go and cut his losses. To give up and move on.

Dave looked away from John, staring out into the distance.

He hated the rain.
